What Is The WIFI Like At Butlin's Minehead?

Are you wondering ‘what is the WIFI like at Butlin’s Minehead?’ We recently stayed here and I thought I’d do a quick post all about how we found the wifi.

Update 10/04/23: There have been some known issues with the WIFI over the Easter holiday period, apparently due to problems with local phone masts.

This has meant that phone signal, including 4G and 5G at Butlins has been worse than usual and therefore far more people have been trying to access the WIFI making it slower and less reliable than in previous months. Hopefully, these issues will be resolved soon.

While some people love a holiday where there a no phone signal or wifi, I have to admit, that is not me.

I run my own self-employed business and while I know I probably should take a proper break occasionally, it’s something I find really hard to do.

In fact, I think I would find it more stressful not being able to reply to urgent emails and my income could be affected if I don’t reply to clients about work in a timely manner, even with an out-of-office email on.

What Is The WIFI Like At Butlin’s Minehead?

Before booking our Butlins Minehead break, I did quite a bit of research into what the general phone signal and the WIFI was going to be like.

This is because we had a break early in 2022 at Haven Devon Cliffs where there is no phone signal whatsoever and no WIFI other than in public areas. At the time of this break, my Dad had been really in and out of the hospital and I spent the whole time concerned that if anything was to happen, my Mum wouldn’t be able to get hold of me to let me know.

As our daughter goes to bed at 7 pm (even on holiday!) we knew evenings would be quiet ones spent at the accommodation and both myself and my husband wanted enough signal for a scroll through Facebook or to watch a few YouTube videos if we wanted to.

When we were narrowing down places to book, we looked at WIFI provisions, the cost of buying WIFI passes and recent reviews on places like Trip Advisor to see what other travellers had experienced.

One of the worst places for both WIFI (paid and free) seemed to be BlueStone Wales so we took that right off our list.

From the research we did, the WIFI at Butlins seemed, in the opinion of most guests, to be adequate, especially when paying for the upgrade, which we were happy to do if it was a reasonable cost.

Is There WIFI At Butlin’s Minehead?

Yes, there is WIFI at Butlins Minehead.

There are two options; Free and Paid.

The free WIFI at Butlins includes the following;

Up to 300MB data allowance a day, per device
Enough to scroll social media and send emails
Not the best option for streaming or gaming
It’s free and can be accessed from both your accommodation and communal areas.

How Much Is Premium WIFI At Butlin’s Minehead?

Premium WIFI at Butlins costs £15 for a three or four-night break or £25 for a seven-night break. It can only be purchased via your device once you arrive at the resort – you cannot book it ahead of time.

Once purchased you can use the WIFI on up to four devices, so you could consider sharing the cost with other members of your party, they’ll just need your details to log on.

Also, perfect if you have children that might want to use it with their tablets or other devices.

With premium WIFI at Butlins Minehead you have up to 20GB per day allowance which should be more than enough to stream videos and play games, as well using it for social media.

What Is The Wifi Like At Butlin’s Minehead?

We found both the free WIFI and Paid WIFI at Butlins Minehead to be pretty good overall.

I did have a small issue getting the paid WIFI set up initially – the page used to register your details, name, email address etc said that I already had an account, but didn’t then give me the option to log into that account. Tried a couple of times but couldn’t get it to work.

In the end, I just cleared my browser history and tried again with a different email address, which this time wasn’t recognised and I was able to register and pay for the WIFI.

Up until this point, the free WIFI was perfectly adequate and it actually took a couple of days for my husband to get through his free daily allowance and ask me for the details to log on to the paid WIFI.

We also found the mobile signal to be pretty good around the site too. It was limited in the accommodation areas but walking around the resort we found there was plenty of 4G signal. We are both with O2 and were able to make phone calls easily.

I was able to do some work from my phone while our daughter was using the soft play area which involved uploading images and posts to one of my websites something I wouldn’t have been able to do if the signal was poor.

Before going on holiday we had been considering buying a portable WIFI device such as this one from EE but in all honesty, we wouldn’t have needed it.

The only thing we didn’t try using WIFI for was streaming to the television in our apartment through a device such as an Amazon Firestick.

The WIFI during our stay at Butlins Minehead was good enough that we have booked to go again next year – whereas we wouldn’t stay at Haven Devon Cliffs again due to the serious lack of phone signal and WIFI there.
