Winter travel packing hacks

This is a sponsored post

Packing for a trip in the winter can be tricky. You want to make sure you have plenty of warm clothes, but chunky knits and thick winter trousers take up much more room than summer dresses and bikinis.  Here’s how to squeeze as much as possible with these winter travel packing hacks.

1. Use Packing Cubes

Packing cubes are a great way to make the most of the space in your suitcase. They help to compress your clothes meaning bulky items will then take up less space.

They can also help you organise your things better when you are packing.

2. Wear Extra Layers On The Plane

Worried about the weight of your suitcase? If you want to take lots of layers with you on your winter holiday then wear as many of them as you onto the plane. Think tights under jeans, a vest, long sleeve T-shirt and a jumper, followed by a coat, hat scarf and gloves.

You can place your coat in the overhead storage bin once you’re on the plane and a wide scarf doubles up nicely as a blanket as it can be pretty chilly while you’re in the air anyway.

3. Invest In Microfibre Towels

If you’re travelling on a budget, then you might not always be staying somewhere that provides towels.

Microfibre towels are smaller than regular towels and therefore take up less space, with the added bonus that they take much less time to dry – perfect for when your travelling in a cooler climate.

4. Roll, Don’t Fold

Rolling your clothes, rather than folding them has been proven to save space in your suitcase. Don’t forget to stuff shoes full of socks too!

5. Ankle Wellie Boots

Is there anything worse than wet feet?

While walking boots are generally waterproof, if they do get wet, it can take a while for them. Personally, I love a pair of ankle-height wellie boots if I’m going to be somewhere wet. Easy to slip on and off, waterproof and they dry out very quickly if they do get waterlogged. I love these ones from Joules.

6. Pack A Few accessories

Okay, so packing more things might seem counter-intuitive, but if you’re limited on how many jumpers, trousers and jackets you can cram into your suitcase and you’re worried about wearing the same thing more than once during your trip, a few well-chosen accessories could help you change your look without needing to pack any extra clothes.

Scarves, necklaces and earrings can all redefine an outfit and don’t forget you can change your hair for a different look too.

  • Winter Sun – Even if you’re heading to a cold climate the sun could still be shining – don’t forget to pack sunglasses, sunscreen and lip balm.
  • Rent don’t buy – Take the stress out of packing by renting bulky winter items when you arrive. Perfect for ski holidays.
  • Mix and Match – Choose clothes that can easily be mixed and matched with one another in neutral non-clashing shades. Add colour with accessories instead.
