Thinking of staying at the new Woodland Barrels in LEGOLAND Windsor Resort?
In this honest review, I’ll cover everything you need to know, from what the barrels are actually like inside, to the pros and cons of staying there with kids, plus top tips for making the most of your stay.
We visited in summer 2025 and stayed as a family of four, including a toddler.
Why We Chose A Woodland Barrel Over a LEGOLAND Hotel Room
This was our first ever trip to LEGOLAND, and as we were only staying one night, we decided to try out the Woodland Barrels, which are a glamping-style accommodation, located in the Woodland Village.

My husband has always loved the idea of camping; however, I have always been less sold on it, so this seemed like a perfect compromise, plus a bit of an adventure for the kids.
The main reasons we opted for the Woodland Barrel at LEGOLAND:
- Budget-friendly – much cheaper than a standard hotel room at Legoland, we used a Black Friday offer that included two park days, breakfast and accommodation for £250.
- Fun Base – as we didn’t plan on spending much time here, we didn’t think the small size would bother us.
- Location – we are very outdoorsy, so we loved the easy access to outside space and play areas for the children.
This type of accommodation only opened in 2024, so it is still relatively new. We were very excited about staying overnight at Legoland Windsor.
The Woodland village consists mostly of wooden lodges, arranged in small groups around children’s play areas, with lots of woodland-themed LEGO dotted about too.

The woodland barrels are made up of two U-shaped rows with a shared shower and toilet block behind.
We loved the feel of this whole area – it wasn’t overcrowded and there was plenty of open space. We preferred this area to being in a hotel room.

Checking In To The Woodland Barrel – What To Expect
After a full day in the park, we checked into our Woodland Barrel around 5 pm. Check-in was easy; LEGOLAND sends a QR code, which you simply scan to get your room keys at the Clubhouse.
It’s worth noting you do have to pay a £5 deposit to get this, but the money is held, not taken from your account. Our barrel number was 1210.
We were given a map by a helpful member of staff, and as we were tired and it was the end of the day, we opted for the shortest route to the barrels, and then wished we hadn’t, as the path was so gravelly and uneven!
As this is a new area, I was surprised there wasn’t a proper, smooth path in place, and it couldn’t be tricky to navigate for those with mobility issues.
The path leading up to the barrels is gravel, too – this meant our porch area was covered in small stones.

The barrels themselves look very sweet and cosy. They put me in mind of a Hobbit house!

However, the first snag we came across was that they were boiling hot! We visited on a day where temperatures had reached 30° and boy could we feel it in the barrel!
We quickly switched on all three fans and opened all the windows.
We would have liked to have kept the door open, too, but we have a toddler who tends to make a run for it at every given opportunity!
We would have a stable door so we could keep our little one inside, but still let some air in.

Eventually, the barrel did start to cool down, but even overnight, it didn’t reach a comfortable temperature for sleeping.
And as someone who is very noise sensitive, the constant whirring of the fans made it difficult for me to sleep.
What’s Inside A Woodland Barrel At LEGOLAND? Layout, Beds & Storage
While the woodland barrels may be small, we did have everything we needed.
There’s an elevated double bed at the far end of the barrel and two single beds in the lower part, with a walkway between them.
All bedding is included in the cost of your stay, as are towels.
There is a little wooden step up to the double and also a small fold-out table.
There is a huge storage space under the double bed area for your bags, suitcases and even a pushchair.
We could have put our buggy under here, but we chose to leave it outside overnight, just for ease more than anything else.

Each single bed has a small table with a drawer at the end of it, and this is also where the plug sockets are located.
Both areas of the barrel have a built-in fan, and there is also an additional portable fan for when it’s every hot.
The windows are like standard hotel windows that only open a small amount – this was useful for us, as I was worried about our toddler trying to climb out of the window in the double sleeping area.

There aren’t any low-lighting options in the woodland barrels. We chose to keep the porch light on overnight just in case any of our party needed to nip out to the bathroom.
I think each barrel could do with its bin; there is one nearby, but we found it filled up quite quickly with everyone in the barrels using it.
Finally, it’s worth noting that while the barrels do have electricity, there are no tea and coffee-making facilities or a fridge.
WIFI & Mobile Signal LEGOLAND Woodland Village
One thing we did struggle with was connecting to the WIFI – after five attempts, each my husband and I both gave up.
The woodland barrels are advertised as having WIFI, so this was pretty disappointing when we just wanted to chill and scroll a bit after a busy day.
It also meant our daughter couldn’t watch anything on her iPad.
Mobile signal was also patchy – mine continuously jumped between 5G and 3G.
Woodland Barrels At LEGOLANwuoD: Toilet & Shower Facilities – Were they clean?
Having been newly built, the toilet and shower facilities are in great condition, and it’s great that towels are included (find these in your Woodland Barrel).
The toilet block was located directly behind our barrel, so it was a very short walk for us. However, the whole area is so small I’d say it’s less than a minute’s walk from any of the woodland barrels.
During our stay, we never had to wait to use either the toilets or the showers, although I imagine it may get busy in the morning.
There is also a drinks machine and a water fountain for refilling water bottles here. The area is well lit, but you could bring a torch if you’re worried.
LEGOLAND Woodland Barrel Pros and Cons
LEGOLAND Woodland Barrel PROS
- Woodland Barrels are the cheapest option for staying on-site at LEGOLAND, so they are perfect if you’re on a budget and an affordable alternative to the LEGOLAND hotel.
- Early park access for some rides. We used this to ride Flight of the Sky Lion without too much of a queue.
- Basic but functional accommodation – if you’ll only be sleeping there, then it’s a great base.
- Newly built, with limited wear and tear and fun design with LEGO touches.
- Plenty of outlet sockets for charging devices. Hairdryer and fans are included.
- Woodland Barrels are perfect for two adults as well as families with young children. Those with older teens might find it a bit of a squash!
LEGOLAND Woodland Barrel Cons
- More suitable for older children – I do not recommend it for toddlers.
- Very warm, especially during the summer months.
- Shared facilities – we didn’t mind this, but I know it’s a deal breaker for some people.
- Limited evening entertainment.
- Can’t access facilities at other LEGOLAND hotels, such as the swimming pool.
- No Lego toy hunt is included (this is something you get with all other accommodations, where the children have to figure out some clues and receive a small Lego set at the end).
- Limited WIFI and phone signal.
- The stony pathways weren’t the easiest to push a buggy along, so it might be an issue for anyone with mobility needs.
- No room for a travel cot, so not suitable for very young children.
Breakfast At The Clubhouse, Woodland Village, LEGOLAND
A free breakfast was included as part of our stay. It’s recommended that you book your slot ahead of time, as it does get very busy.
We opted for 7.45 am to give us plenty of time for eating before heading up to the Legoland entrance at around 9 am, as early entry for onsite guests starts at 9.30 am.
7.30 am seemed to be the most popular time as we arrived a little bit early and there was a huge queue. We took our children outside to the playground while we waited for it to die down a bit.
The breakfast options include unlimited continental options such as cereal, fruit, and pastries and one of two hot options: either pancakes and bacon or a full English.

There was a selection of tea and coffee, plus different fruit juices to drink. We did have to wait a couple of times for both milk and juice to be refilled.
Ordering the hot food is on your phone via a QR code. I liked this option as it made it easy to customise each breakfast for our very fussy eaters.

We removed the berries from the pancakes and beans from the cooked breakfast, and they arrived exactly as we had ordered them.

The breakfast itself was delicious and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. The quality is much better than the food served at the Clubhouse in the evening, which was pretty average and very overpriced.
Tips For Staying In A Woodland Barrel At Legoland

Finally, here are my top tips if you plan to stay in a Woodland Barrel and Legoland.
- Take camping chairs – inside space is limited, and lots of other guests had done this during our stay.
- Bring slip-on shoes – Pack flip flops or Crocs to slip on when walking to the toilet block.
- Cooling towel – these were great for cooling down in the evening. You could also bring a portable fan if you’re concerned about the heat.
- Breakfast – Don’t forget to make a reservation ahead of time.
- Dinner – We didn’t rate the restaurant; many guests ordered a takeaway from Just Eat or Deliveroo, which they collected at reception. I wish we had done this.
- Early Park Hours – Take advantage of early opening to go on the most popular rides with limited queue times.

One final thing to mention – checking out is easy. Simply return your wooden lodge key to reception at the Clubhouse.
Would We Stay In A LEGOALND Woodland Barrel Again?
In all honesty, we wouldn’t stay in one of the Woodland Barrels at LEGOLAND again.
When we booked, we were thinking ‘yay, fun camping adventure’, but after a long day in the theme park, we really would have preferred a bigger, cooler space to relax at the end of the day.
This is in part my fault for not anticipating how tricky we would find this accomdation with a toddler.
However, we would stay in the other Woodland Village accomdation, the woodland lodges, if we visited LEOGLAND again.
Overall, we liked the woodland theming in this area, but the Wooden Barrels just weren’t right for us as a family.
